But as the obligatory I read the book first review Reading the book is helpful - the movie has several areas that are left unexplained, so a background knowledge of the books is good, but, there are several minor, and major, plot changes from the book.
Still an overall good story, but not quite The Maze Runner. This is one of those few sleeper movies that surprises you when you see it.
Great special effects and story just keeps getting better as plot unfolds. Mostly all new talent to the big screen but everybody has to start somewhere.
This movie does not have all the sci-fi techno special effects like the Hunger Games series - but it still has a high thrill factor for enjoyment nevertheless.
It's so different - its not the least bit boring. I bought the sequel to see if they can continue the high tension momentum. It may start off a little slow but it gets up to speed real fast.
Hold on for the creature feature portions that really spice up the plot. Enjoyable slice of YA dystopia, and you may have noticed that we're in no short supply these days.
I haven't read the books so I didn't walk in with any preconceived notions of characters, plot or setting. I was kinda aware of the series simply by catching clips now and then in the work break room TV.
I decided to watch it from start to finish so that I could put all the pieces together. The acting is good, great I should say.
These actors are young but deliver performances of those much more experienced at their craft. CGI was noticeable at times but not a deal breaker. I'm interested in these characters and will likely read the book just so that I can flesh out the world of Mazerunner.
I will definitely be watching the sequel once it is available to rent on Amazon. I was very hesitant to rent this film because of how disappointed I have been with the whole next big teen movie franchise based on a book series garbage that studios keep churning out and because of all the negative comments on IMDB but I went ahead and rented this on Amazon Instant and was pleasantly surprised.
I have agreed with all the negative word of mouth that has accompanied films like Divergent and The Host so I was avoiding this film, but much like Edge of Tomorrow with Tom Cruise I did not regret paying to see this film.
Edge of Tomorrow was a surprisingly good film that I avoided in the theater but shouldn't have. This year I have learned that films I was looking forward to like Godzilla were the ones I disliked while films I had no desire to see like The Maze Runner were entertaining.
One of the best things about this film is the dialogue is not cringe worthy like so many other films whose target audience is the easily separated from their cash teen crowd the studios now covet thanks to the major success of Twilight.

This is a hugely entertaining and intriguing dystopian SF thriller with overtones of the Lord of the Flies. The protagonist is Thomas, a year boy who wakes up inside an underground service elevator which stops at the surface, a large grassy area The Glade enclosed by tall, stone walls The Maze.
Thomas has no memory of his identity and through his perspective we discover that the group of male youths who inhabit the Glade have formed a rudimentary society with each boy assuming a specialised task.
I was genuinely gripped by the well-paced narrative and the film held my attention to the very end with glimpses of a post-apocalyptic world.
An excellent addition to the genre and I will definitely be watching the sequel. This is another of those films aimed at a young audience that is thought-provoking and challenges our view of the society we live in, or in this case a society we don't live in, yet.
Even then, we have more questions than answers, whetting our appetite for the next intriguing episode. And yes, my appetite is certainly whetted for all of that.
I can't think of anything to be critical about, the movie pretty much does what it says on the can, with a twist or two at the end.
